Astanga Yoga and Eating Well

Nigel knows how to combine the dynamic Astanga form with some yin, 'letting go' exercises to create a complete, rounded system (and, in the end, complete, rounded people).

The Healthy Food

Nell Nelson is passionate about food, and eating well. She combined her love of food and cycling for the TV series 'The Woman Who Ate Scotland', and imparted her deep knowledge of healthy eating in the book 'Eat Well with Nell'.

Nell is your on-site nutritionist for the week, working alongside The Hill chef, Bente. During the week, Nell will help you with healthy eating, and making the right food choices for you. This includes:

  • A talk on healthy eating
  • A cookery lesson demonstrating some of her best recipes
  • Being available at meals for advice on healthy eating
  • Offering one-to-one nutrition advice (for which there'll be a charge)

This week provides a winning combination: of an in-depth study of yoga, with all the accompanying benefits; and a full week of healthy eating (and detox at the level you fancy).

All our yoga holidays are designed for all levels. As on other weeks, there is one session in the morning and one late-afternoon.

This week offers the perfect combination of vigorous yoga and healthy eating, leaving you cleansed, relaxed and in fine shape for the summer.

You'll do astanga yoga twice a day with the vastly experienced yoga teacher, Nigel Gilderson. And you'll get expert advice on how to eat well from nutritionist, TV celebrity and author of 'Eat Well with Nell', Nell Nelson (and then get to practise immediately by eating well the delicious healthy food of The Hill).

A full range of healthy food will be provided during the week (and cooked for you by Hill chef, Bente): from the usual Hill healthy vegetarian fare (that includes wheat and diary products), to wheat-free and vegan detox options.

The Yoga

Nigel has explored and taught in-depth many styles of yoga. He has practised and taught Astanga yoga for 20 years, including training teachers in this form. Astanga yoga is a system developed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, involving synchronising the breath with a progressive series of postures. This vigorous system detoxifies muscles and organs, improves circulation and creates a light, strong body and calm mind.
